Tattoo Aftercare Guide

Expert Aftercare Instructions for Your New Tattoo from Dame of the West

Saniderm Healing

  • Keep the Saniderm on your fresh tattoo for 3–5 days.

  • It’s normal to see fluid build up under the bandage—this is plasma and or ink.

Shower, but Don’t Soak

  • You can shower normally. Saniderm is water-resistant but not waterproof.

  • Do NOT submerge the tattoo (no baths, pools, hot tubs, or oceans).

Removing Saniderm

When it's time to remove it:

  1. Wash your hands first.

  2. Peel the bandage slowly under warm running water, pulling it back along the skin (not straight upward).

  3. Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial soap.

  4. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry.

Reapplying Saniderm (Optional)

  • If your artist recommends a second piece, apply it to clean, dry skin.

  • This new bandage can stay on for 3–6 days, depending on your skin and lifestyle.

After Saniderm Removal

Once the bandage is off for good:

  • Wash the tattoo daily with mild, fragrance-free soap.

  • Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion as needed (don’t over-moisturize).

  • Avoid soaking, heavy sweating, and direct sun for 2 weeks.

  • No picking or scratching while it peels.

What to Expect

  • Light peeling, itching, or flaking is normal.

  • Your tattoo should feel mostly healed in 2–4 weeks but will continue to settle over time.

Traditional Plastic Wrap Healing

  • Keep the plastic wrap on for 2–6 hours after your session.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo.

  • Gently remove the plastic wrap.

  • Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap.

  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel or allow to air dry.

  • Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion or ointment.

Weeks 1–2

  • Wash your tattoo 1–2 times daily with mild, lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap.

  • Apply a light layer of fragrance-free moisturizer or ointment 2–3 times daily—avoid over-moisturizing.

  • Do not pick or scratch as it peels or scabs.

  • Avoid swimming, soaking, or direct sunlight.

Weeks 2–4

  • Tattoo should be mostly healed; continue using unscented lotion.

  • Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen when going outside.

  • Avoid exfoliating or scrubbing until fully healed.
